Eachine H99D Camera Drone Flight Test Review

This smaller sized quadcopter includes a 3MP 720p camera with a 120 degree wide angled lens. Find it here Portable size should be good for hikers wishing a small/light camera quadcopter

- Very maneuverable flier.

- 3MP camera with 120 degree wide angled lens.

- Widely available batteries.

- Headless (CF) mode and one key return.

- Controller buttons are all labeled.

Cons

- Numerous dropouts and loss of control occured in my test flight at relatively short range. When the quadcopter loses controller signal, it maintains last control input for up to 10 seconds. This can cause flyways or crashes, especially if flying down wind.

Eachine Pioneer 350 GPS Camera Drone Flight Test Review

This inexpensive GPS camera drone seems to be a reincarnation of the popular Cheerson CX-20. Buy it here Reasonably priced for a large GPS camera drone.

- Relatively rapid GPS lock on.

- Includes GPS position hold, and return to home/landing.

- Setup and operation, along with operating switches all are extremely similar to the popular Cheerson CX-20. The body shape seems to be the primary difference.

- Compatable with mission planner software.

- Optional telemetry version available.

- Optional follow me GPS watch is planned for the near future.

- Fast and maneuverable flier in manual and altitude hold mode.

Cons

- Does not come with stabilized gimbal, or camera mounting bracket.

- Not very stable in the wind. Flight controller seems to lag a bit in control response to sudden changes in wind gusts.

- Throttle response somewhat sluggish in GPS mode.

- Requires FAA registration.

UPAir One Camera Drone on Mars Flight Test Review

Come along for a drone flight over the surface of Mars! Well, Trona Pinnacles, California which might as well be Mars :-). Buy the UPAir One here or here on Amazon GPS FPV explorer quadcopter has plenty of special features including 5.8Ghz FPV, on screen display (OSD), high resolution 7" monitor, two axis gimbal, and HD camera. IMO this quadcopter is still the best bang for your buck in terms of the features provided for the price.

Pros

- Very little assembly required (just prop installation). Gimbal, camera, landing gear, and everything else was already installed out of the box.

- GPS with dual compass that does not require compass calibration prior to flight (calibrates itself automatically during flight).

- Long range FPV (I've been able to get out to about 600 meters).

- High resolution 7" monitor with on screen display (OSD) of pertinent flight information. Includes camera recording status, GPS satellite status, compass direction, range, total distance travelled, flight mode, total flight time, takeoff elevation, remaining battery power, speed, attitude, and my personal favorite... the arrow pointing home ;-)

- Long range control (out to 1000 m).

- Failsafe return to home on loss of signal or low battery.

- Comes with Firefly 2K or 4K HD camera. It has gyro stabilization, although I didn't not turn it on. The selection shows a video camera icon with dampener balls attached. Again, I had that turned off for this flight.

The camera also has varied field of view. I have wide angle selected for FPV flying. But it can be reduced to medium and narrow field of view (for those that don't like fisheye).

The camera also has WiFi, so that the camera can be viewed in flight and controlled by the Firefly FPV app available on Google Play and iTunes.

- Two axis stabilized gimbal with tilt control.

- 5400mah quadcopter smart battery (I've been getting over 14 minutes flight time with it)

- Controller powered by 11.1V 2200mah LiPo battery.

- Flight modes include GPS position hold, altitude hold, IOC (headless mode), and return to home.

Cons

- Instruction manual was incorrect regarding the switch positions of the transmitter. May result in accidentally leaving the transmitter on.

- Controller's antennas (5.8Ghz FPV and 2.4Ghz control) are not removable/replaceable. In other words, can't install better antennas to replace the stock ones.

- Landings can be bouncy, but haven't tilted the quadcopter yet in landing.

- High speed flying in altitude hold results in climbing of the quadcopter.

- Requires FAA registration to be flown in the USA.

Yizhan iDrone i4s Micro Camera Drone Flight Test Review

This little quadcopter is very portable, and actually has a very nice camera. Find it here 2MP 720p HD camera. Actually produces reasonably good video with good view angle. Dropped frames shown in this video was caused by the cheap memory card provided with the quadcopter.

- Very smooth flier for smooth video

- Comes with needed microSD card and card reader, although card speed could be better.

- small portable size of quadcopter and camera make this a good small backpack (or fannypack :) quad.

- Uses widely available generic 380mah LiPo batteries

- All control buttons labeled with easy to understand symbols

- Headless mode and one key return.

- Does not require FAA registration.

Con's

- Provided memory card is insufficient to keep up with needed write speed for the camera's video. Recommend getting a better Class 10 card for improved video.

- Range is limited at about 40 meters.

- Not an aggressive flier. Very docile. Meant primarily for aerial video.

DM009 HC Conqueror Long Flying Altitude Hold Camera Drone Flight Test Review

This 1080p camera drone can fly much longer than most other toy grade camera drones. It's also a great flier with altitude hold making for relatively steady aerial video. Buy it here Long flight time (up to 13 minutes) provided by its 7.4V 600mah battery.

- Very nice smooth flier. Great for aerial video purposes. But can also be very fast and enjoyable flier in expert rate.

- Altitude hold works very well.

- Automatic or manual takeoffs and landings.

- Headless mode and one key return.

- Does not require FAA registration.

Cons

- Some jello in video that should be correctable by balancing the props. Video also appears to be interpolated to 1080p from a 720p sensor.

- As its powered by a 7.4V battery, would strongly recommend limiting flips to avoid stressing your motors. Also it's an altitude fold flier with motors that are always powered/turning once the motors are armed. As such, strongly advise learning how to manually and quickly turn off the motors in a crash to avoid overheating them. And finally, if you have spare batteries, recommend allowing some cooldown of the motors before your next flight (at least 15 minutes rest).

JJRC H11C Camera Drone Flight Test Review

This camera quadcopter includes a unique ability in toy drones, with a camera that has a remote angled lens. From the ground you can angle the lens in-flight for up or down viewing. Find it here

The quadcopter itself is very well designed and is a great flier. However its controller does appear to have some issues in that its range is much less than advertised.

Pro's

- 2MP 720p HD camera with powered lens that can be remotely controlled to view up or down.

- Great flying quadcopter. Very maneuverable with plenty of power.

- Very colorful and bright LED lighting. Great night flier.

- Motors are plug in replacement, and very easy to change, even in the field.

- Large 1100mah battery for 7 minutes flight time if recording, and up to 10 minutes if not.

- Includes headless mode and one key return.

Con's

- Limited range of about 60 meters, much less than its advertised 120 meters.

- Although an HD video camera, jello and video sharpness and color is somewhat poor.

- Camera memory card and card reader are not included, must purchase separately.

and here's my flight with JJRC

Huanqi HQ H899 Large Camera Drone with FPV Flight Test Review

This large quadcopter is a close clone of the Syma X8C, X8W, and X8G all in one. Includes an HD camera, a camera mount capable of holding a GoPro, and a WiFi FPV transmitter. Find it here Large steady and stable flier, good for aerial video purposes.

- Camera includes WiFi FPV transmitter, allowing real time viewing of video from the vehicle.

- Includes 5MP 720p video camera with built-in microSD card video recorder. This is one of very few WiFi FPV quadcopters that actually can record in HD format.

- Camera mount is also suitable for holding GoPro, and GoPro sized clone cameras.

- Transmitter starts beeping when quadcopter reaches low battery power. First toy grade quadcopter that I've seen with this feature.

Con's

- Some jello in video. Propeller balancing will likely be required to minimize.

- WiFi FPV video is very choppy with much lag. Not really usable for controlled flight of the aircraft via the video. The FPV video is primarily intended to help in aiming the quadcopter's camera at desired subjects while in the air.

- Weighs well more than 250 grams. Requires FAA registration.
